 Happy New Year! As we embark on 2012, we are off to a running start with several events and programs ahead. Right now, many of the Dallas CPA Society members will be attending the TSCPA Mid-Year Board Meeting in College Station on January 19-21. Immediately following will be Dallas CPA Society’s Annual Meeting on January 31 beginning at 5:30 pm at the Cityplace Conference Center.
Our annual meeting on January 31 will feature The Honorable Texas State Representative Dan Branch as the guest speaker. We will announce and vote on officers and directors for next year and will also be recognizing several CPAs who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities. In addition, there will be important information regarding recent developments and upcoming events at the Dallas CPA Society. I would like to encourage all of you to attend the Annual Meeting.
I would like to welcome everyone back from the Holiday Season and look forward to another great year.

The dreaded April 15 deadline sends many people into a panic and in search of a good CPA. You can help relieve those fears, answer some questions and receive recognition all at the same time by participating in the Dallas CPA Society’s 19th Annual Tax Hotline, coordinated in conjunction with the Dallas Morning News. The Hotline will be Sunday, February 12, 2012, from 12:00 pm-4:00 pm at the Dallas Morning News, 508 Young Street.

Another Successful Coat Drive!
Thanks to the many who contributed to the annual Coat Drive for the Love for Kids, Inc. Charity. The coats were distributed at the Love for Kids Christmas Party at Circle R Ranch on Saturday, December 10. These are some of the neediest children in the metroplex, and you responded to that need.

Nine hundred and seventy coats, gloves, hats, and scarves were collected.
The Love for Kids Christmas Party at Circle R Ranch on Saturday, December 10, was attended by over 3,500 children of all ages. This is the largest party of its kind for underprivileged children and it involves a lot of work. We appreciate so much the time and spirit Dallas CPA Society volunteers contributed by toy sorting, working the games and playground in the carnival area, and making sure these children had a good time. Many thanks, and we hope your holiday was as bright as the smiles on the children’s faces – which you helped produce!

AICPA College Contest
Student Team from N.C. State Wins
Ninety-eight teams from around the country this year entered the AICPA's annual college competition, which focused on a fictional Texas company that wanted to expand into the Nigerian oil fields. A student team from North Carolina State University won first place. The Iowa State University team took second place and University of Texas at Dallas was third. The UTD team included Amanda Billingsly, Ben Harwood, Thomas Matter, Teresa Tran, and John P. Barden CPA, CFE . "This year's competition highlighted fraud and forensics, which is one of the fastest growing areas of accounting," said Greg Anton, CPA, AICPA Chairman of the Board of Directors.
