How to Prevent Prompts to Send Errors to Microsoft
Whenever a program crashes, whether it's a Microsoft application, a component of Windows, or a third-party application, a window appears, prompting you to send a "report" to Microsoft. If you are skeptical of Microsoft actually utilizing this information, or if you would just like to avoid this notice, Windows XP can be configured to prevent prompting for this communication.
This feature can be configured to prevent these prompts either completely or selectively. To do so, follow these steps:
Open "System" in the "Control Panel" (or right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties").
Choose the "Advanced" tab, and click "Error Reporting".
Error reporting can be entirely disabled or enable selectively for certain programs. Click "Ok" when you have made the changes you desire.
By modifying this configuration, you can reduce, or eliminate, being prompted to send information to Microsoft when software inevitably crashes next.
